Cynthia Chisom Umezulike Rocks the Runway at Africa Fashion Week London
Africa Fashion Week London which held at London Spitalfields Market, saw Nigerian model Cynthia Chisom Umezulike walk for over 30 designers over two days on 3-4 August.
The Nigerian model who recently came to public attention as a contestant in UK's Channel 4's highest rated show ‘Come Dine With Me’, which draws in an average of 4-5 Million viewers per episode, proved one of the most popular models on the runway receiving great audience reception.
This popularity led to Cynthia also modelling for Nigerian designers Keto Couture and Didi Creations at a private fashion show held on Monday 6 August at Nigeria High Commission only two days after Africa Fashion Week London.
“Africa Fashion Week London was an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to strut down the runway for over 30 designers as well as opening and closing the shows for some of the designers. It was hectic but the Afrobeat music on the runway and the ever enthusiastic cheers from the packed crowd each time I walked out kept me pumped up and delivering my best," said Cynthia of the Africa Fashion Week London experience.
Of her experience modelling at the Nigeria High Commission, Cynthia said, “I and Sudanese model Ajok were selected from all the models who showcased at the Africa Fashion Week London to appear as guests at the ‘Abuja House’ Nigerian High Commission showcasing the exclusive collection by Keto Couture and high-end bag designs of Didi Creations. It was an awesome moment as we had great reception from all the ambassadors’ wives present, our previous work in the fashion industry was acknowledged and all the designs we showcased for both designers were either purchased immediately or had strong buyer interest from almost everyone present.”
Scouted at the age of 15 in her native Nigeria, the former Miss Tourism Lagos and Miss Commonwealth International Nigeria, Cynthia has had vast modelling experience both in her native Nigeria as well as the UK where she now resides, including London Fashion Week and Vauxhall Fashion Scout.
Beyond modelling, Cynthia boasts a Master's degree (LLM) in Human Rights Law from the University of London, Queen Mary and will soon be embarking on a doctorate programme. She has also completed her first book titled Parallel Sapphires – Rules to Inspire which offers a detailed guidance on how teenagers can build their self esteem, accept their true worth and realise their full potential.
